It is my pleasure along with Darryl Gober & Cat Saxon to welcome you to The Artists Collective Reception Friday, April 5th from 5:30-7 PM at BC Gallery 235 Forest Avenue Laguna Beach. This reception will be followed by a Play, Love Letters, starring Mark Miller and Ava Burton at a cozy theater that seats 35 people in the BC Gallery.
For the past several years, I have been working with a group of artists from The Friendship Shelter in Laguna Beach, CA We are known as the ‘Artists’ Collective’. The Friendship Shelter’s Artists Collective is a group of artists whose lives have been enriched by the services of the Friendship Shelter. Most of the Collective members have had the personal experience of homelessness. All have made some or all of their living, at one time, through their art. The individuals meet regularly to share, process, and plan public installations of their work.
The intention of the Collective is:
- to inspire, support and empower members as artists
- to promote awareness and interpret how life experiences contribute to the creative process
- to share both individual and collective experiences with a broader audience
- to engage in a dialogue that embraces the fragility and resilience of the human experience.
This collective work reminds me a quote from Ralph Emerson, ‘We are not strong by our power to penetrate, but by our relatedness’.
